“in-doctor-inated”—brilliant! I might have to steal that :-)

This makes a great companion piece to this article:

many doctors I have consulted with seem to have this infallibility complex.. Many of them have been totally fallible, and outright wrong. It runs through all persons with advanced degrees, the higher the degree the more they are infallible. I am suspect now of any diagnosis and especially the treatment, way too much damage has been done to my trusting body. I do my own research.

My older sister is a nurse. I wish I had a dollar for every time she began a sentence with "As a nurse" in order to win an argument.

I’m trying to get one of my best friends daughter-in-law to educate herself on childhood vaccines. She’s a nurse with a one year old daughter. I sent her a link to CHD and the recent article by Toby Rogers on the CDC. I know she thinks, who are you to question my nursing education. She’s against giving her baby the Covid shots thank God but still thinks all the other shots are safe. At least I tried.

Love the play on words! We have so many blind spots. The most current one discovered within myself: we spend quite a bit of effort, money, and time into becoming a “specialist” in our field when the truth is that complex problems usually require a nuanced solution that is outside of the myopic scope of a “specialist”. Sometimes you need a gardener to solve a surgeon’s issue. Maybe it’s worth taking an origami expert to space or a chef in a submarine... actually, come to think of it, why wouldn’t you take a chef anywhere? 😂

Great post, as always.

Yes, the ongoing battle is real. The height of hypocrisy seems like a flat roof these days. "Access to abortion is important!!!! My body my choice!!" "Get vaccinated to protect those around you. It is not about you!" "We have an Opioid Crisis!!" "Here, smoke this legal gateway drug to make you feel better!"

Sometimes it's not so much an issue of good or bad as it is the right to a second opinion, and the ability to follow it, even if the second opinion is your own. I expand on this here: https://leemuller.substack.com/p/are-you-a-risk-taker
